Very easy and simple kurma recipe ideal for lunch box, to accompany with all dishes like idli, dosa, appam, poori, idiyappam, chapathi and parotta.
This can be prepared easily in large volume when guests visit our house.
There are so many varaties in kurma recipe, this being our great grandma - Saradha Patti's recipe. Combination of tomato, coconut and spices gives us vera level taste. The addition of a bouquet of spices and condiments make traditional Indian home cooked food one of the healthiest meal around the world.

Tomato Kurma | Thakkali Kurma- Our Paati
INGREDIENTS
Onion sliced - 1/2 Cup |
Tomato - 2 Nos |
Oil - 3 tsp |
Mustard seed -1/2 stp |
Green Chilli - 1 |
Curry leaves - Few |
Salt - 1.5 to 2 tsp |
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp |
Corriander leaves - few |
Coconut grated - 1/2 cup |
Fried gram - 3 tsp |
Corriander seed - 2 tsp |
Red chilli - 4 nos |
Fennel Seed - 1 tsp |
Poppy seed - 1 tsp |
Cinnamon - 2 small |
Cloves - 3 Nos |
INSTRUCTIONS
For Paste :
1. In a mixer jar take 1/2 cup coconut, 3 tsp fried gram, 2 tsp coriander seed, 1 tsp Poppy seed, 1 tsp fennel seed, 4 red chilli, 2 small pieces of cinnamon and 3 cloves.
2. Make them into fine paste.
For Cooking :
1. Keep the pan and heat 3 tsp of oil.
2. Then add mustard, green chilli and curry leaves one by one, allow it to splutter.
3. Now add 1/2 cup sliced onion and saute till it become transluscent.
4. Add 2 tomatoes-finely chopped, salt and turmeric powder and cook till the tomatoes becomes soft.
5. Then add 1/2 to 1 cup water and cook it for another 5 mins.
6. Now add the prepared masala, required salt and 1 to 1 1/2 cup water according to the consistency.
7. Mix well and cook it for 10 mins in low flame.
8. Finally garnish with coriander leaves.
9. Ready to serve!

Note :
1. Kurma should be little bit watery, not too thick, thereby add water accordingly
2. Cook till raw smell leaves.
